Mobile Broadband Plus the iPhone and iPad = Much More Than Entertainment
Portable audio devices have been popular with fitness enthusiasts since the first days of the Walkman, giving us the ability to listen to music or other motivational audio while we exercise. With technological advances such as mobile broadband and computer processing ability, devices such as the iPhone and the iPod Touch now provide much more than entertainment or distraction while we exercise.
Fitness Apps help us track our exercise regime in the gym, at home, or on the go. With your own digital personal trainer available at the touch of the button, who has an excuse left not to get fit and stay fit? Here’s our list of the coolest fitness apps available today.
iFitness
iFitness by Eltima Software provides an excellent graphical interface, more than 450 separate exercise types, video and audio instructions on how to perform each exercise properly, an exercise log to track your progress, BMI calculator, and upcoming iCloud support. For those looking for comprehensive A/V assistance on training exercises, this app does a great job.
Pushing Weight
Pushing Weight is a very user-friendly training log that uses an in-app calendar you set yourself, to track your training progress. The day’s exercises are listed on the calendar along with video-game style energy bars that show you how consistently you’ve been doing each exercise, as well as which exercises you’ve been missing. There’s no slacking off with this app!
The BodyBook Fitness Journal
The BodyBook Fitness Journal provides an extraordinary level of exercise customization and feedback on progress. Each exercise listing on your schedule displays the time you’ve spent, reps, weight, even the number of calories expended, and the personalized graphs show how much progress you’ve made over time so you can see where more work is needed.
The Gym Buddy
The Gym Buddy focuses on your workout logs. This app is for exercise enthusiasts who are already comfortable in how they exercise, and who are just looking for a customizable exercise log that can track progress. The app provides an overview of each area of exercise (such as lower body, or chest and arms), lists the amount of exercise done by day, week, month and even year. Great app for those simply wanting to see how they’re doing over time.
iStayFit
iStayFit is a very versatile app that provides both deep customization of your workout schedule, and detailed instructions on how to properly do each exercise. Starting with more than 200 basic exercises that can be extensively customized, and including BMI indexing and weight tracking, this app is easy to use for beginners and flexible enough to satisfy advanced users.
Hundred PushUps
SoftwareX’s Hundred PushUps focuses on one of the most basic and effective strength-training exercises we can do: the pushup. This six-week training program is focused specifically on the goal of doing 100 pushups, improving core strength while giving you a stunning upper body.
The Navy SEAL Fitness
The Navy SEAL Fitness is an expansive and results-proven training guide based on The Navy SEAL Fitness Guide written by the U.S. Navy. With hundreds of pages of detailed explanation about how to exercise as well as the physics behind the most effective exercise programs, this guide is a must-have for anyone wanting to learn more about how the best exercises work, and how to perform them to the best effect.
Mobile broadband technology is providing access to a new level of information and convenience for our exercise programs. The apps listed are only a few of the many excellent training assistants available. There are so many useful applications available, there’s no reason not to get going and get fit!

Gerry
Thanks a lot EJ and Gerry for mentioning our app Pushing Weight. We really appreciate it and warmly welcome any feedback from our customers.
We have been working on the app for several months now and feel that we have achieved what we initially set out for; making a training app that serves three main purposes: planning, tracking and logging of workouts.
Feel free to visit our website at http://www.pushingweight.net!
Thanks again,
