While it's true that sarcoplasm may not increase strength, calcium concentration in sarcoplasma is a huge element of the muscular fiber in which the contractions take place and regulate. By utilizing glycogen at an increased rate upon contraction, the surrounding fibers are able to work in harmony with the negative end of the contraction. For instance, when an inner mucle fiber contracts, the smaller muscle fibers still produce heat and search for an instant source of stored energy.

WHen any exercise is performed you will seldom work only one muscle group. If you see or feel one specific part that needs isolation movements then I say go for it. I have personally seen athletic gain through isolation movements, especially through high-rep sets at a moderate weight. Multi- joint and bodymovesments are great, but fine- tuning is a key element to development.

I myself prefer lifting for strength- low reps, always trying to get stronger.
The 5 set 10 to 25 rep bodybuilding formate is alot more tiring, but it wont get you as strong.
If you look at NFL guys and MMA you can tell they use weightlifting- Ron Waterman is a good example.

wow, some people have too much time on their hands!
UC15 said athletes look at bodybuilders and feel they have easy opponents in a given sport, im sure when athletes look at bodybuilders they must feel they look small. Lets not forget Bodybuilding is about "LOOKS". I'm sure if BBers would have invested their time into playing a sport they could have easily been good atheletes within a sport.
Watch other videos if you hate BBing so much you feel you have to post unwanted and biased comments!!!

HandelandJ,

Bodybuilders don't do a lot of squats, nor do them well. They prefer technically easy leg press, quad extension, ham curl, & straight leg deadlift. If bodybuilders squat at all, they do very partial ones, thighs parallel at the lowest - usually less.

Some real squats, on YouTube, all done at the end of their workouts of several sets each of heavy snatches, clean & jerks, and pulls:

Brady 190Kg Back Squat

More 2RM back squatting up to 175 kg

Dabaya 5x200 front squat

Me, no, and I don't pretend to be an expert. And I'm also not a bodybuilder. Bodybuilders, however, do a lot of squat's and know a lot about them, and I would be very interested to know where you heard otherwise.
